1- Builds Strength by Toning Your Body & Helps Fitness Goals

Volleyball, alike most sports will improve both weight and fitness goals. Better yet, one becomes more aware of healthy decisions such as not drinking or smoking as much or at all. Each position requires almost every muscle in the body.

2- Healthy Heart = Happy Heart

With your heart rate up, the blood will circulate and the nutrients throughout your body.

Bonus Points: Breast Cancer or Osteoporosis later in life become a much lower when playing volleyball. Also, volleyball is known to improve the respiratory & cardiovascular system.

3- Burns Fat & Calories

Burning calories is a bonus to the fun of the sports. The longer you play the more calories are lost. Volleyball is very much a full body sport. In volleyball, athletes sweat which requires plenty of water to flush out the system. Jumping, diving, serving requires determination, hand eye coordination, agility and speed.

4- Team Sport

Having fitness goals is great. Being on a volleyball team to motivate one to get to the gym is the extra push most people need. It is a fantastic way to meet new people who have similar interests, & it's fun!!

5- Reduce Stress & Depression

Volleyball stimulates endorphins which are the body’s natural mood lifters. There is a direct correlation between stress hormones in the body and exercise. Being physically active in volleyball will keep one’s mind distracted for the time being from daily stressors. Over time the endorphins building may even leave one feeling more relaxed after a volleyball workout.

Top 5 Reasons why joining a volleyball league can improve your fitness!!!

May 12, 2018

Getting into shape does not always have to be labour. Working out can be fun. The secret is to join a sports team. Of course, here at Volleyball Winnipeg we would encourage all of you to join one of our volleyball leagues and here’s why…

1- Commitment

Being the member of a team greatly increases the likelihood you will get off the couch and participate.

You’ve all been members of a gym and can remember making that commitment to yourself to go out three times a week. No excuses. A few months later you’ve all but given up on attending regularly and start working on a diet. Perhaps lowering your calorie intake will keep you looking fit.

When you join a sports’ team your commitment isn’t to yourself, but rather to the members of your team. This is far more meaningful and results in regular attendance by most participants. Want to guarantee you attend your work out? Join a sports team.

2- Fun

Unlike a “work out” at your local gym, playing a sport is fun! I know this goes against the, “No pain, no gain” talking point you’ve heard all your life, but just like food that is great for you but tastes like cardboard, and no one will eat, few people have the discipline to endure monotonous gym routines by themselves for any length of time. It may be good for you, but it is difficult to manage on an ongoing basis.

The answer is joining a sport team (or two) and having fun when engaging in physical activity. Not sure you’re going to have fun, just watch children at play and it will remind you of what you’ve been missing.

3- Goal Setting

How motivating is life’s routine now that you are enjoying the 9-5 work cycle. Let’s see. Get up; go to work; come home; watch some tv; chat with the family; go to bed. Repeat. Now that’s exciting stuff.

Being the member of your local sports’ team means you are playing to win your league championship. Train a little extra. Motivate each other. Win your championship. This is rewarding at any age. Don’t believe me? Come out and see for yourself. Regardless of the tier, the competition is fierce during the season-ending tournament and EVERYONE wants to win.

4- Friends

Whether you are a small group of players or an individual looking for a team, joining a sports team is an excellent way to interact with others and make new friends.

Here’s a simple question? How many friends have you made at your local gym? The likely answer is none. The gym is simply not the greatest venue in which to engage with others.

The fact that participation in team sports results in greater interaction with others is the appeal. Working with your team to attain a desired goal (win your championship) is inherently more satisfying than working out on your own.

5- Affordable

You can participate in many team sports (including volleyball) for as little as $10/month. Few athletic endeavors are more affordable.

What are the Health Benefits of Volleyball?

May 17, 2018

Why exercise plans don’t work

Every year, many people decide to make a lifestyle change towards healthy living. A large part of that plan usually involves losing weight and getting in shape. A noble endeavour, and vital if you plan to be around until a grand old age. Unfortunately, less than half diet and exercise resolutions survive the first six weeks and more that 75% will fail within the year. Why? Many people say that it is difficult to follow a diet and exercise regime and even harder to get back on track once they have fallen off. So, should you simply give up?

Join a volleyball league

Fortunately, there is a solution. Have you considered joining an adult volleyball league? Think about when you were a kid. You never considered playing team sports such as volleyball as work. It was a chance to get together and have fun with your friends. You could have the same feeling now. Team sports provide a sense of comradery, competition and fun while, at the same time giving you the healthy exercise you need.

The benefits of playing volleyball

The benefits of team sports include: Engaging your brain; playing a team sport is more than a physical workout, like running around a track or on a treadmill, or pumping weights, it involves paying attention to your surroundings and coordinating with others. Your mind has to stay involved; it can’t just disengage liker you would in a regular workout. Motivation; you aren’t in this alone, your teammates expect you to show up for every practice and game and to do your part. It is in their best interest to keep you involved. Physical exercise; unlike a regular workout, where you spend your whole-time counting laps or reps, you get involved in the game and give yourself a complete workout without even realizing that you are doing it. You may even have fun. Add to that all the new friends you will make, your teammates who look forward to seeing you show up regularly and share in your fun, and you have a winning combination.
