“'Never make any judgements on individual players or the team after the first day or week of training'

They say that first impressions are important but they also say don’t jump to conclusions.  At the beginning of every pre season, there is always some player who has worked hard in the break and arrives in mid season form.  And there is always some player who arrives out of shape who looks like she has never touched a volleyball before.  Most players of course fall somewhere in between.

An experienced coach knows that the first week has exactly zero predictive power for the performance of either the team or individuals.  So sit back, and observe how different players react to training (and each other).  After a couple of weeks you will start to notice that many of those initial observations were not accurate, or very useful.  ~Mark Lebedew"

As some of you parents might have noticed while sitting at practice (which is always open and welcome...just make sure you bring me a Earl Grey tea 1 milk...) coach Ben and Luc have really been drilling the fundamentals down with all of our girls. Passing, footwork, footwork, passing... Especially in the passing part of the game, as that is more than half of the game right there. We have 14 practices left before our first tournament (Feb 15-16), and in the coming weeks the speed and intensity of the practices will be a little higher in tempo. I will mentally prepare them for their tasks. We as a coaching staff are aiming to put the girls in the best position to play their strengths while encouraging them to reach a little farther from their comfort zone to expand their repertoire as volleyball players.

I'd like all the parents on this team, to let your girls know that the coaching staff recognizes their hard work. I'd also like to give a big shout out to Mackenzie's mom, Tracey, for hosting the team get together. I'm glad the girls got together in that they develop a strong sense of team and foster a lasting friendship.

Last Notes: We have 2 out of towner's in March with a back to back weekend out in Brandon. So don't forget to book your hotel. Big shout out to our team manager Dion for getting the hotel rooms reserved and all of our tournaments booked for the team. If some parent's can't make it with their daughter's let's start getting coordination with rides and boarding in the next couple of weeks. This will be my 3rd year travelling to Brandon for a tournament and these are always fun, as much for the parents as it is for the girls.

Have a great week.
