Fall-Winter-Spring Premier League

NEW PREMIER LEAGUE FORMAT

Effective Fall of  2024, we have changed the format of the League so that it follows a Developmental Camp format. Sessions will be held on Saturday afternoons and will last two hours.

Each session will comprise of 90 minutes of training followed by 30 minutes of team play. By the third or fourth week athletes are expected to be placed on a team and train as a team so that athletes learn positional play as well as skill development.

The season ends with a Championship Tournament with teams being tiered by age class and awards will be handed out to top teams.

Program Overview

  • PROGRAM REGISTRATION: Once an athlete has been placed on a team, they are sent a registration code that will allow them to register online for the upcoming season by selecting their assigned practice location day/time.
  • PARENT REP: Is required before a team can start registering athletes. These are confirmed at Evaluations. Anyone stepping forward to assume the role can select their child and his/her friends on their chosen practice location.
  • TEAM JERSEY: Is ordered on behalf of the team by the Parent Rep directly to the organization’s merchandise supplier. Parents are responsible for the cost of the jersey, and these are payable directly to the supplier. Returning athletes would not need to re-purchase a team jersey.
  • ATHLETE PLACEMENT. Almost all athletes are placed on teams. However, should an athlete not be placed on a team they will be offered the opportunity to join one of our seasonal camps.

  • Ensure all athletes receive their jersey from the program supplier

  • Works with the instructor and office to staff to arrange for make-up sessions should there be permit cancellation

  • Coordinates with parents’ possible team outings for the athletes

Division AA Gold 2nd Place Winners - Winter season 2024

League Overview

First started in 2001, VISION Premier League was started like other recreational programs with Parent Volunteer Coaches being asked to step forward and coach their child's team. In 2013 the program was modified with Instructors being hired to run practices while Parent Volunteers continued to bench coach teams during games.

INSTRUCTION
Volleyball Winnipeg provides instructors for every team practice. To allow for more playing time teams are generally maintained at 8-10 athletes and two teams will train together on one court to ensure team play during practices.

TEAM PARENT REP
For our program to work effectively every team will require a "Parent Rep". The parent rep will communicate directly with the Program Director should problems arise. Bench coaching during league games is also undertaken by parents and is organized by the Parent Rep. Parents participating in team games as bench coaches will provide the team instructor with feedback on what areas of the game the teams need to work on.

PLAYING TIME
Coaches are asked to respect the league's fair-play policy. The goal is to introduce the game of volleyball in a stress-free environment where playing time is well distributed. According, there are no substitutions. Players rotate off after serving and rotate into Position #6 (back middle).

GAME FORMAT
Please note that teams in divisions with eight or more teams can expect to play two matches of 45 minutes each while divisions with 4-6 teams will likely play one match of 90 minutes. In brief:

  • Matches will be two sets only when playing two matches
  • Matches will be four sets when playing one match
  • Bench coaching is limited to providing feedback in-between sets.

Out of town residents’ welcome! We have many participating athletes who reside outside the Winnipeg-area. Our program is not limited to Winnipeg residents only.
