Our Youth Leagues

Premier League for Boys & Girls

First started in 2001, VISION Premier League is a program offered by Volleyball Winnipeg. It is a recreational league with a unique blend of instructors who train athletes during practices and parent-volunteer coaches who coach during games.

OVERVIEW
The Premier League consists of one practice per week with an instructor and league games on Sunday afternoons. Divisions are as follows:

  • Division B - Boys and Girls in Grades 6-8
  • Division A - Girls Grades 9-10
  • Division AA - Girls in Grades 11-12

League games are held on Sunday afternoons so not to conflict with school sports. Athletes can register by choosing their preferred practice location from those listed below. Evaluations are also available for athletes who would prefer to come out and meet potential teammates.

INSTRUCTION
Volleyball Winnipeg provides instructors for every team practice where two teams train together. Instructors will review positional play and team strategy along with the fundamentals of the game.

COACHING
Bench coaching (coaching during games and tournaments) is performed by volunteer-parent coaches. Parent-volunteer coaches may also train athletes in practice upon request.

PARENT VOLUNTEER COACHES

  • Assist instructors during practices
  • Bench coach the team during games

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
Although coaches are asked to respect the league's fair-play policy during league games, coaches may favour athletes during the season-ending tournaments. That being said, we ask coaches to hold athlete/parent meetings prior to competition if they intend to reduce playing time.

PLAYING TIME
The VISION Premier League is a fair-play environment. That being said, parents should understand that playing time may be affected by each player’s chosen position (fewer setters, for example, would result in them playing more) and bench coaches have the right to favour players during the season-ending Championship Tournament.

Please note that teams in divisions with eight or more teams can expect to play two matches of 45 minutes each while divisions with 4-6 teams will likely play one match of 90 minutes. In brief:

  • Matches will be two sets only when playing two matches
  • Matches will be four sets when playing one match
  • There are no time-outs
  • Bench coaching is limited to providing feedback in-between sets. Referees and a site convenor will be on hand to sit with teams to review strategy and offer feedback.

WMVA ADULT CO-ED LEAGUE

First started in 2014, the WMVA Adult Co-ed League is a program offered by Volleyball Winnipeg. It offers league play on a seasonal basis during the fall, winter, and spring (indoors) and the summer (outdoors).

The league is unique in its effort to find teams for individuals and small groups and in our desire to provide participants with a community environment where everyone gets to know each other. With that in mind, the organization always pays for a free night of pick-up games durin
g its weekly "Open Gym Night."

Volleyball is a terrific sport which can be enjoyed indoor and outdoor year-round. Participation helps improve one’s health, coordination and social skills. Unlike the indoor game, the 4 x 4 and 3 x 3 formats allows for more contacts and better overall communication between participants.

Although the league is generally a self-officiating league, the program allows for officials during the season-ending Championship Tournament. Awards are provided to each Tier Champion.

Out of town residents’ welcome! We have many participating athletes who reside outside the Winnipeg-area. Our program is not limited to Winnipeg residents.
